Local Synagogue To Mark Holocaust Remembrance Day

The event will take place at Temple Beth Israel this Sunday.

Temple Beth Israel in Pomona will mark Holocaust Remembrance Day with a commemorative service and film viewing on Sunday.

The program will begin at 4 p.m. with a showing of the Academy Award-winning documentary Into the Arms of Strangers - Stories of the Kindertransport, which chronicles the 10,000 children who were sent from Germany, Austria, and Czechoslovakia to safety in England during the beginning of World War II.

Following the film, harpist Mary Dropkin will perform Boris Pigovat’s “The Wandering Stars,” and readings and prayers will also be featured. Holocaust survivors in the local community will be recognized, and there will be a special tribute to Nina Morecki, a Claremont resident and survivor who recently passed away.
