DISASTER PREPAREDNESS: Diamond Bar Hosting Special Course for Seniors

The city of Diamond Bar will host a special "disaster preparedness for seniors" course next week.

Adults 55 and older are invited to a special workshop being hosted by the city of Diamond Bar next week focused on disaster and emergency preparedness.

The event— which is being offered free-of-charge— will take place Thursday, February 28, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Diamond Bar Center, 1600 Grand Ave., according to the city.

"Co-sponsored by Foothill Communities RSVP, this seminar aims to teach older adults how to increase their self-sufficiency and what steps they can take ahead of time to prevent or minimize injuries during a disaster," an announcement about the event states.

Those in attendance will also learn what sorts of things should be included in your at-home emergency kit— and at least one person will receive a free kit at th event, organizers said.

Though the event is free, reservations are required and can be made by calling 909-839-7070.

Home emergency kit: Guns, ammo, gold coins, 6 month living expenses in small bills, Full tanks of gas in the cars, several full gas cans. Realize you will be on your own for weeks and the business where you work may be permanently closed. A home generator is likely a waste because all it will do is keep your freezer cold. Gas is more important for use in your car. Use canned food and let the food in your freezer thaw and eat it first.

The adults over 55 will be the first to go. Why waste time on them?

Go where? Yes. I do not understand the age limitation, unless there is an over 55 group that regularly has speakers.

At least we should let people sleep on the weekends! I remember the last memorial weekend, whenRead More Susan Park was full of baseball banging noises starting at 6:30 am and then screaming and kicking at 7 am. Can Walnut Counsel fix that non-sense??
Michael W June 11, 2013 at 07:27 pm
CP is right, the Walnut Council should be working on REAL quality of life issues, even though theyRead More aren't so glamorous. I'd like to see this issue solved/leaf blowers BANNED verses the Council putting in another red-light camera or parking meters to extort money from Mt. Sac students.

During the hotter months, the days are longer, people try to do outdoor work really early or reallyRead More late since it's cooler. What about all the barking noise created when people walk their dogs really early or really late? These people usually have their favorite spots and they just stand there forever while all the dogs in the street are going crazy. Shouldn't this be banned too?

Hello Me. Sure. I have a press release to post from the district on some Nogales Gates MillenniumRead More scholars. I just haven't had a chance to post yet. I have a little more time because Nogales hasn't had its graduation yet while DB, DR, and WHS all have had theirs. You can also use this announcement section to post stuff happening at Nogales that you want the community to know about on Patch.

Why post this book as if it is NEWS? The headline read as if it were actual news, not a bookRead More review. Shouldn't there be a separate section for books and such?

I agree but, if there is, I couldn't find it. And, actually, it isn't a book review; it's a bookRead More blurb for the first novel in my Malone mystery series.
