Duct Taped Cat On His Way to a Happy Ending

A cat found outside the county animal shelter in Baldwin Park in a box with its mouth, nose and feet duct taped will be turned over to an animal rescue group today.

A county employee where someone had left it.

"Animal cruelty is heart-breaking, intolerable and usually a precursor to human violence,'' Marcia Mayeda, director of the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control, said last week after the roughly year-old cat was found.

The cat was named Amigo because he was found in an Amigo bananas box.

Since then, Amigo has been cleaned up and checked out by a veterinarian.

Today, he will be turned over to animal rescue group that will find him a permanent home.

"The traumatic experience has clearly affected Amigo and he will likely require special care for the rest of his life,'' Mayeda said. "We are grateful to the adoption partner who stepped forward to take on the task of rehabilitating and socializing Amigo so that he will make a wonderful family pet one day.''
