Los Angeles County freeways are expected to be a little more crowded - and the skies a bit friendlier - this Thanksgiving holiday weekend .
The California State Automobile Association is predicting 5.4 million Californians will travel at least 50 miles over the four-day Thanksgiving weekend.
That's a 0.6 percent increase over last year. It's also the fourth straight year there has been a slight increase in California travel over Thanksgiving.
More than 4.7 million California travelers are expected to drive. That's a 0.5 percent increase.
Another 548,000 will fly. That's a 1.8 percent decrease. Higher air fares are mostly to blame for the drop.
Almost 170,000 people are expected to use other modes of transporation, such as trains and boats. That's an 11 percent increase.
People who hit the road are expected to drive an average of 887 miles over the four-day weekend.
A West Coast family of four will spend an average of $767, if they travel over the holiday weekend.
