Motivation for the shooting is unknown at this time.

A 16-year-old boy was hospitalized Friday night after being shot by someone in a passing vehicle.

The boy was shot in the foot and was taken to an area hospital. His friend, a teen girl, was not hit in the incident, authorities said.

The shooting happened around 10:43 p.m. on Los Palacios Drive and Fullerton Road. The two teens were walking when an older model SUV with tinted windows drove up. The shooter said nothing before firing on the teen, according to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.

There was no indication the shooting was gang-related.

Officials could not say how many occupants the SUV had, but initial scanner reports indicated there may have been as many as three. The SUV was last seen northbound on Fullerton Road.
