Boulder That Came Through Diamond Bar At Its Final Destination
The 340-ton boulder that stopped in Diamond Bar last week finally made it to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art early this morning.
The 340-ton boulder that last Friday has finally made it to its new home.
The enormous rock arrived at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art early today, with hundreds of onlookers watching from the side of Wilshire Boulevard. The rock arrived a bit behind schedule, due to cars that were in the way of the giant transporter carrying the boulder that had to be towed away.
The boulder will be suspended above a walkway as part of artist Michael Heizer’s “Levitated Mass” exhibit.

To cater to the crowds outside of LACMA, food trucks and vendors came out, and some viewers even participated in a 5K run called “Running of the Rock,” which started when the giant boulder finally arrived at the museum around 5 a.m.
LACMA officials estimate that it will take two to three weeks to maneuver the monolith, which is heavier than the giant limestone blocks that were moved great distances by the ancients to build the pyramids at Giza, Egypt, into its resting place.
