Diamond Bar Celebrates Big at County Fair

The city celebrated their special day at the fair with a parade and a ceremony to honor three Diamond Bar residents.

Diamond Bar got to celebrate its special day at the Los Angeles County Fair on Thursday.

The city is among a handful to participate in the fair’s tradition of honoring local cities and recognizing residents who contribute so much to those communities.

Diamond Bar and Diamond Ranch high school’s bands performed. Mayor Pro-tem Jack Tanaka and councilmen Steve Tye and Ron Everette and several city staffers rode floats and fire trucks.

Residents were offered discounted admission.

And three Diamond Bar residents who volunteer in the community were honored that day. They are:

Orien J. Pagan is a tireless volunteer for many clubs and organizations in Diamond Bar including Junior Woman’s Club, Women’s Club, Diamond Point PTA (Chapter President), Chamber of Commerce (President) and the Diamond Bar Community Foundation Board. According to fellow Women’s Club member Paula Dryburgh, “Orien possesses a high level of personal dedication and involvement and a fun-loving spirit.” Orien also started the Business Showcase at the City Birthday.

A resident of Diamond Bar for more than 40 years, senior hero Richard Malooly continues to be an active member in the community. He was a member of DB Homeowners Association for several years, working on community beautification. He volunteers with the yearly Kiwanis/Boosters golf tournament to raise funds for the Walnut Diamond Bar Sherriff Boosters volunteers. He also attains donations for student scholarships from the Kiwanis Club.

Josh Chen is more than qualified as a community hero. While keeping busy with academics, he is also a leader in the community. He is a cello teacher, tutors fellow students in music, coordinates American Red Cross blood drives and acts as Activity Director for Diamond Bar High School Leo Club Chamber. He has completed more than 100 service hours and continues to excel in his activities.
