Diamond Bar Rocks Out at First Concert in the Park

More than 500 people filled Sycamore Canyon Park to participate in the first concert in the park and movie under the stars.

Diamond Bar rocked out Wednesday night during its first Concert in the Park/Movies Under the Stars event at Sycamore Canyon Park.

More than 500 people filled the park to listen to the band Platinum Rockstars, who performed a number of popular tunes from arena rock staples, including Boston and Queen.

The concert kicked off at 6:30 p.m. Two hours later, the group turned their chairs to face a large inflatable screen where they prepared to watch “Zookeeper,” starring Kevin James and Rosario Dawson.

This is the 22nd year they have held the concerts in the park. A couple of years ago they added the movie, said Councilman Jack Tanaka.

“It’s nice to have an event that, even in the heat, people want to come out and enjoy,” Tanaka said.

And at each event, a nonprofit is invited to run concessions as a fundraiser. Wednesday, Boy Scout Troops 777 and 737 served up carne asada tacos, chili fries and regular and bacon-wrapped hot dogs.

They had a line of steady customers.

“We’re happy to see people enjoying themselves,” Tanaka said.
