Walnut City Councilman Bob Pacheco announced Wednesday night that the formation of the Walnut Valley Community Orchestra is underway.
Pacheco said he is preparing the legal documents to establish the community orchestra, which will include participants from Walnut and Diamond Bar. Those documents will be done in around 30 days, he added.
A master chorale also will be formed, he said.
Once the legal work is done, organizers will call for participants of all ages to audition.
"We have a lot of talented people in this city," he said. "It will be wonderful for the community and will go right along with being one of the best cities in this country."
The orchestra will be a volunteer group and will not cost the city any money, Pacheco said, adding that he is certain Diamond Bar will want to participate as well.
Councilwoman Mary Su praised the idea and said she could see the orchestra performing at events like the Walnut Family Festival.
Mayor Antonio "Tony" Cartagena compared the formation of the community orchestra to Pacheco's work to help establish the Walnut Valley Educational Foundation.
"This will be another great milestone for Bob Pacheco," Cartagena said.
