Former Diamond Bar School Volunteer Pleads No Contest to Stealing Club's Funds

Lisa May, also known as Lisa Haygood, was facing six counts related to the theft of close to $40,000 from Castle Rock Elementary School's nonprofit club.

A woman accused of stealing nearly $40,000 from a Diamond Bar elementary school volunteer organization pleaded no contest Tuesday to one count of grand theft of personal property, according to Jane Robison, a Los Angeles County District Attorney's office spokeswoman.

Lisa May, also known as Lisa Haygood, appeared in Pomona Superior Court to enter her plea. She will return to court Oct. 23 for sentencing, Robison said.

May, 44, had been charged with six felony counts including grand theft and forgery.  The former Castle Rock Elementary School Community Club volunteer was accused of forging a name on checks belonging to the nonprofit organization totaling $39,651.

The club's purpose is to raise money and enhance opportunities for students, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department wrote in a news release about May's arrest.

Detectives from the Walnut/Diamond Bar Sheriff’s Station took May into custody March 5.

The alleged theft took place during a six-year period, sheriff's investigators said.

Other members of the group reportedly discovered the missing money in June 2011 when they reviewed the financial books and records, according to a complaint the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office filed March 13.

May remains out of custody. She had been released on $120,000 bail shortly after her arrest.
