Updated: Two Killed Today in 60/71 Freeway Crash

Two men were killed today and a third man was injured when a truck crashed into a parked big rig on the transition road from the eastbound Pomona (60) Freeway to the southbound Chino Valley (71) Freeway in Pomona.

California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos said county fire department paramedics transported a survivor to a hospital. His condition was not immediately known.

The big rig -- a tractor-trailer combination -- was parked on the right shoulder of the transition -- why was unclear -- and the driver was outside his vehicle when the other truck crashed into the trailer portion of the stopped vehicle shortly before 9 a.m., Villalobos said.

The big rig driver, in his 40s, died at the scene, Villalobos said. He was found beneath the wreckage of the trailer. The driver of the other truck was hospitalized, and his passenger, a man in his 20s, died at the scene. The names of the dead were withheld pending notification of their relatives. The transition road was closed to accommodate the crash investigation, Villalobos said.
