Developer Putting Finishing Touches on Starbucks Center

Taco Factory also intends to move into the building.

The Starbucks-anchored project at Valley Boulevard and Lemon Avenue in Walnut is taking shape.

After some construction delays in the spring, progress is moving forward.  The wooden frame that was visible for several months is now a fully developed building.

"We are really happy with how the architecture has turned out," Community Development Director Tom Weiner said. "Construction was not as fast as we wanted but we are looking forward to something at that corner."

The Planning Commission approved the site plan and architecture for the 7,390-square-foot, two-story building in February 2012. In March, the commission approved the conditional use permit for the project, which will include retail and office space.

The Mexican fast food chain Taco Factory also plans to open a location at the site.

Weiner said the developer has agreed to do some enhanced landscaping at the site and provide outdoor seating. Some construction to the exterior will soon be wrapped up and Starbucks is working on the interior of its cafe, he added.

"We wanted the building to make a statement but mix in with the existing business park," he said.  "As an entry way to the city, we are very happy with how it has turned out."
