The Fulfillment of a Dream

Diamond Bar Patch is starting a new business feature. Today we profile Julie's Cafe.

Diamond Bar Patch is starting a new series that we hope to run regularly. Each year, business owners take the plunge and start up a business.

The City of Diamond Bar spotlights a business every month. Diamond Bar Patch would like to take a look at the business and at the owners.

Julie’s Café is a labor of love and a dream come true for local resident Julie An.

“I was a real estate broker for 24 years,” An said recently, before holding a grand opening for the new cafe. “But I always dreamed of opening a café. This café has a really nice patio. And that is what I was looking for.”

A 26-year resident of the town, An finally opened her dream café April 11. It was time, she said. The children are grown, she said.

The café has windows on one side and a long outdoor patio. An has added wood and natural colors inside the brightly lit business. There is the familiar wall of cups carefully arranged. It seems to combine a coffee and teahouse aura.

An assortment of coffees, fresh baked bagels, sandwiches, salads and fruit smoothies are offered. And An planned to add evening café hours, but likely without the food service.

“I really wanted (to create) something homey and cozy,” she said. “And I didn’t want to compromise. I’m really enjoying this. A lot of people come back and tell me they really enjoy the salads.

An is also a member of the Diamond Bar Lions Club and the Friends of the Diamond Bar Library.
