Why? You have yet to say anything about The Farmers Market that just opened....??? Even when multiple readers have mentioned it to you.
Melanie C. Johnson (Editor) February 25, 2013 at 02:24 pm
It is on the list John. I called but did not get an answer. I will try back. Thanks.

The buffet that was supposed to replace Acapulco seems to have gone. The sign disappeared and work on the building has stopped.
Melanie C. Johnson (Editor) February 25, 2013 at 04:53 pm
Hi Julia. Thanks!
SPG February 25, 2013 at 05:17 pm
Yeah I was disappointed that it never opened. I had heard from one the lessees in that same shopping center that stringent city rules drove them away. It's too bad, it would be nice to have a place in town that serves dinner and a cocktail - even it was just a buffet! :)

is this truely a "Farmers Market" meaning to the farmers have certification that they grow their own fruit and vegetables? the former Diamond Bar Farmers Market now know as the Jack Newe Farmers Market does and is at Mt. Sac parking lot off Grand Ave every Saturday from 8am to 2pm. Come check us out for some "real" farmers market products. We have "certified organic" growers too. Please check us out.

I saw that resturant company went bankrupt as they worked on the building. Hate to see the city would make it hard for business to come to town.

I have passed by the new place that took Carrow's place on Golden Springs a few
times, place is empty. I went once, just not my cup of tea. Preferred Carrow's. Hope they make it, but from what I have seen things not looking good.

What is that place that opened up where D'Antonio's used to be? Anyone know?
Beverly Cartwright February 26, 2013 at 02:27 am
I believe it's Hot Dog Pops.
pamylla February 26, 2013 at 01:34 pm
I was sorry to hear that D'Antonio's is no longer and VERY surprised to hear it turned into a hot dog place. Anyone try it yet?
T-Mont February 27, 2013 at 05:09 am
I noticed the Burger King on Grand next to the old Honda dealership closed.
T-Mont February 27, 2013 at 05:09 am
Tried it on Sunday. I really like it. It's a fun place with good food. Huge portions!
Melanie C. Johnson (Editor) February 27, 2013 at 05:50 am
Hi T-Mont. Yes I have that one. Went by and took some pics.
SPG February 27, 2013 at 03:56 pm
We love Hot Dog Pops! It's still a work in progress but a very cute concept! Youthful & fresh - a nice option in DB if you ask me. If you like specialty sodas & root beers its will hit the spot - they reportedly serve more than 140 kinds root beer and soda pop. The owner is very friendly and as T-Mont mentioned the PORTIONS ARE HUGE. My family likes it! I hope it makes it!

Burger King in the Country Hills Town Center is closing to become a Chase bank (like we need 3 Chase banks in the city). Also, the former Ralph's on Grand/DBar is going to become a Walmart Neighborhood Market.
CynM March 1, 2013 at 02:29 am
The column needs to be renamed " Shutters and more Shutters". DB will resemble Rowland Heights in 5 years. They'll need the tax revenue. Going to Vegas with that.
Melanie C. Johnson (Editor) March 1, 2013 at 04:44 am
Hi DB. Thanks! I wrote the story on that Burger King on Wednesday and the one on Ralph's earlier this month. Appreciate the tips.
Robert Corona March 1, 2013 at 08:07 pm
I have a dire prediction. After Walmart gets established, Albertson's will close.
I know my prices, I went in to Albertson's this week. Walked out. They are soooo expensive. I go all the way to Stater Bros in Rowland Heights. So much cheaper! I have met a few DB people there. Course Ralph's was very expensive too.
Michael W March 1, 2013 at 10:23 pm
Plus, you might get more homeless people- oh wait, Walnut has the homeless problem government cannot "do" anything about- you can send them all to us where Walnut City Hall has placed a big welcome mat for them.
mozzy March 6, 2013 at 03:13 pm
I really think Diamond Bar needs to actively go out and court businesses like West Covina and Downey does (see- Porto's Bakery). How else can DB be sustainable? There are so many stores closing and the ones that are opening in the Ranch Center look like they won't be there for too long.
Ever thought about getting Trader Joe's or Sprouts?
Julia Nelson March 6, 2013 at 04:56 pm
Trader Joe's and Sprouts turned down Diamond Bar years ago and went with Chino. Back when the Alpha Beta-turned-Ralphs on the south end of town closed, the city sent letters to everyone in town and asked to return a post card supporting a Trader Joe's. The city got 5,000 yes votes, about 10% of the population at the time, and TJ's still said no.

I am amazed that Panera bread came into the area. I guess salads are very similar to foods cooked with a wok. That is one big negative for this area with respect to quality of life. (Traffic is another) All the good restaurants are on the west side of LA or near the beach. Just deal with it. Look at the stores that are doing great in this area: TJMaxx, Kohls, Dollar, Target, Kmart, Walmart, There are a few nice restaurants in Chino Hills but I think their days are numbered. No high end restaurant or market is going to go come to Walnut. Demographic in this area is CHEAP. I am that way too. Live way below your means and have a large bank account. Does not bode well for high end stores where folks spend more money than they have to impress people who are shallow and who they do not like.

So a thrift store opened in Diamond Bar, its Yard House Restore, near the old dingy bowling alley. It's in the old Magical Steps Dance Studio space - 962 N Diamond Bar Blvd.
Pros- The staff was very friendly. Cons - So if we agree with Vito then this is the kind of business that gets going in DB? Dingy & down in the heel? Hah, hah, imagine my surprise and excitement when I saw the sign... I thought it would be the kind of "Yard House" with drinks and dining. :) I, however, don't agree with Mr. Spago (surprise!)- I do have money in my bank account, my mortgage is current and yes, I like to buy nice things for myself. I work hard so does my husband and being hard working I feel like my family deserves them. However, I don't want to have always spend money on nicer things out of town in places like Brea or CHills. Diamond Bar should encourage places for us to spend our money locally and deepen our city revenues instead of making us shop elsewhere.
mozzy March 7, 2013 at 11:21 pm
Man, I wish that were the true Yard House, too! Uh.. more asian supermarkets? Diamond Bar doesn't even have a 99 cents store?
mozzy March 7, 2013 at 11:22 pm
10% of the population signed for Trader Joe's? Dude... that's pretty sad.
Brian Holley March 12, 2013 at 12:38 pm
Diamond Bar CrossFit just opened up where the old Payless use to be (Next to Kmart and Autozone). Great staff and an even better workout!
Melanie C. Johnson (Editor) March 12, 2013 at 01:22 pm
Hi Brian. I emailed you. Talk to you soon!
Carrie Yee June 7, 2013 at 10:55 pm
Does anyone know the name of the army surplus store that just opened in the Albertson's shopping center at the corner of Diamond Bar Blvd and Grand?

At least we should let people sleep on the weekends! I remember the last memorial weekend, whenRead More Susan Park was full of baseball banging noises starting at 6:30 am and then screaming and kicking at 7 am. Can Walnut Counsel fix that non-sense??
Michael W June 11, 2013 at 07:27 pm
CP is right, the Walnut Council should be working on REAL quality of life issues, even though theyRead More aren't so glamorous. I'd like to see this issue solved/leaf blowers BANNED verses the Council putting in another red-light camera or parking meters to extort money from Mt. Sac students.
Too Shy June 17, 2013 at 01:25 pm
During the hotter months, the days are longer, people try to do outdoor work really early or reallyRead More late since it's cooler. What about all the barking noise created when people walk their dogs really early or really late? These people usually have their favorite spots and they just stand there forever while all the dogs in the street are going crazy. Shouldn't this be banned too?
Melanie C. Johnson (Editor) May 31, 2013 at 11:53 am
Hello Me. Sure. I have a press release to post from the district on some Nogales Gates MillenniumRead More scholars. I just haven't had a chance to post yet. I have a little more time because Nogales hasn't had its graduation yet while DB, DR, and WHS all have had theirs. You can also use this announcement section to post stuff happening at Nogales that you want the community to know about on Patch.
