Local Kmart Dodges First Closure List

The company only put out a partial list of Sears and Kmart stores it plans to close across the country. At least 40 more stores will be on the chopping block.

The Kmart store in Diamond Bar will stay open, at least for now, according to a list of closures posted on www.searsmedia.com last week.

Three stores were tagged for closure in Califoria – one in El Monte and two in San Diego County. The underperforming stores set to close in California are all Sears Grand/Essentials, which is similar to a Wal-Mart in the stock they carry and the layout of the store.

The list represented 80 of the 100 to 120 store closings announced in late December. According to the website, updates will be posted as they become available. The company estimates the impact on employees is between 40 and 80 associates per store.
