Time Warner Takes New Steps for Customers Related to CBS Blackout

The cable television company is offering customers antennas or vouchers for them while supplies last.

Time Warner Cable issued the following news release regarding steps taken to alleviate some of the burden on customers related to the CBS blackout.

Time Warner Cable today announced several new steps to ease the effects of CBS’ blackout on consumers and express appreciation to Time Warner Cable customers for their patience and loyalty.

“We remain hard at work trying to reach an agreement that will quickly return CBS shows to our customers,” said Time Warner Cable Chairman & CEO Glenn Britt.

“We are trying to strike a balance between our desire to restore these channels as soon as possible and our responsibility to all of our customers to hold down the rising cost of TV. In the meantime, we’re doing what we can to make the CBS blackout easier on customers and we appreciate our customers’ patience and loyalty as we work toward a fair agreement.”

Affected customers can receive a free Movie on Demand or Amazon gift card. Customers will receive an email or postcard soon with directions on how to redeem the offer.

  • Beginning today, antennas are available in two ways for blacked-out customers who want to watch CBS shows over the air: A limited number of basic indoor antennas will be available free at TWC cable stores and $20 vouchers good toward the purchase of an antenna will be available at local Best Buy stores, while supplies last.

  • Tennis Channel will be available at no additional charge to virtually all customers affected by the CBS blackout during the upcoming US Open Tennis Championships, beginning Monday, Aug. 26.

Time Warner Cable also continues to offer the Starz Kids & Family premium channel on a temporary preview basis where CBS has blacked out its local station.
