Walmart to Open Neighborhood Market in La Puente

The company plans to hire 65 associates for the Hacienda Boulevard store, which is expected to open in October.

Walmart plans to hire up to 65 associates to work at its Neighborhood Market opening in October in La Puente, according to officials.

The grocery store will open at 1425 N. Hacienda Boulevard.  To gear up for the new store, Walmart has opened a  temporary hiring center in West Covina at the Employee Development Department office, 933 S. Glendora Ave, according to a news release.

“With this opening, the residents of La Puente will now have employment opportunities that were lost when the previous tenant closed its doors,” La Puente Mayor Charlie Klinakis said in a statement. “The City is proud to welcome the Walmart to our community and we’re confident that it will be well utilized by our residents. I want to thank Walmart for having the confidence to invest in our community and we look forward to a long and fruitful relationship.”

Those wanting to apply can do so online at http://careers.walmart.com, or visit the hiring center starting today to use the online kiosks.

The hiring center will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Walmart has a Veterans Welcome Home Commitment program in which the company will offer a job to any qualified veteran who has been honorably discharged within the past 12 months.

Store Manager Nicole Kelleher said in a statement that the store plans to hire both full- and part-time associates. 

“We are looking to hire customer-service oriented and motivated people looking for a job or those who have a desire to grow with a company like Walmart,” said Kelleher. “I was hired 11 years ago as a hourly sales associate and now I’m managing the La Puente Neighborhood Market. I want to give my associates that same opportunity.”

The first Walmart Neighborhood Market store opened in 1998, officials said. The average store is about 42,000 square feet and typically employs 95 associates. Visit www.youtube.com/walmartcommunity and search for “Neighborhood Market” to take a tour of a Walmart Neighborhood Markets.
