Capitol Comment for the Week of March 17th, 2014

Senate Republican Leader Bob Huff (R-Diamond Bar) comments on the failure of SCA 5 in his Capitol Comment for the week of March 17th, 2014.

The Speaker of the State Assembly announced earlier this week that he would return the measure to the Senate without taking action on the bill, bowing into pressure from several communities in California who have expressed concerns about the bill.

SCA 5 sought to reverse Proposition 209 and amend the California Constitution to permit public schools, colleges, and universities in California to discriminate against, or grant preferential treatment to, any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in admissions, employment and contracting.

Senator Huff warns opponents to remain vigilant, as supporters of Affirmative Action programs plan to reintroduce the bill again next year.

Senator Huff serves as the Senate Republican Leader and represents the 29th Senate District covering portions of Los Angeles, Orange and San Bernardino Counties. Follow Senator Huff on Twitter @bobhuff99. Visit Senator Huff's website.
