Community Members Gather at Washington Park Groundbreaking

The new park is scheduled to open in the summer of 2012.

On Saturday, city officials and residents came out to the groundbreaking of Washington Park.

Approximately 40 children came to the event, decorating tiles that will adorn a rock seating wall at the park. The theme was “Why I Love Parks,” and the tiles feature everything from trees to swing sets to individual handprints.

The 15,000 square-foot park will be on the corner of Washington Street and Lincoln Avenue, with a small turf area, decomposed granite walkways, picnic tables and benches, and rubberized surfacing. It is scheduled to be finished next summer.
