For Almost 3,000 Addresses, the Survey is in the Mail

Diamond Bar residents living in Walnut's 91789 ZIP code will receive surveys asking if they want to join the rest of Diamond Bar in 91765.

Diamond Bar residents in the 91789 ZIP code, check your mailboxes: the United State Postal Service has sent out the survey it will use to determine whether addresses in the city remain split or unified.

Right now, close to 3,000 businesses and residential properties are in the Walnut, 91789 ZIP code. The survey asking them if they want to change their ZIP code to Diamond's Bar's 91765 was sent to all addresses, and if a majority reply in favor, the unification will take place next year.

According to the city of Diamond Bar, to have their vote counted, survey recipients must complete and return their survey in the postage paid envelope provided to USPS before Wednesday, November 30.

With all of Diamond Bar under one ZIP code, mail and parcels will be delivered in a more timely matter, officials say. It will also reinforce city boundaries and will ensure that sales tax dollars stay in Diamond Bar.

“I think that while some have come to terms with living in Diamond Bar but having the Walnut ZIP Code and simply worked around it say by asking friends to address their mail with ‘Walnut, CA 91789’ to ensure prompt delivery, others hoped this day would soon come,” said Cecilia Arellano, public information coordinator for the city, in a previous interview with Patch.
