Get Out This Weekend

Pick up some plants, and train to become a Jedi.

With the weekend right around the corner, here’s a guide to some events you might want to check out.

1. DIAMOND BAR COMMUNITY FOUNDATION GALA

Where/When: Diamond Bar Center, 1600 Grand Ave., Diamond Bar. 6 p.m. Saturday, November 12.

Why go: This year’s annual gala has a Mardi Gras theme, and will include good food and entertainment. It’s the main fundraiser for the Diamond Bar Community Foundation, and the proceeds will go back into the city through arts, culture, and recreation programs.

Pricing: $100 per ticket, $175 per couple. For more information on how to purchase tickets, visit the DBCF’s website.

2. AMERICA RECYCLES DAY EVENT

Where/When: 21865 Copley Drive, Diamond Bar. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, November 12.

Why go: Get your house in order by taking advantage of this free event. Recycle your e-waste (computers, monitors, cell phones), get all of those old papers shredded by a licensed and bonded document destruction company, and pick up some mulch while you’re at it. Make sure to bring your I.D. to prove that you are a Diamond Bar resident.

3. CALIFORNIA NATIVE PLANT SOCIETY PLANT SALE

Where/When: Eaton Canyon Nature Center, 1750 N. Altadena Drive, Pasadena. 9 a.m. Saturday, November 12.

Why go: A wide variety of native plants will be available for purchase, all reasonably priced. These plants have been chosen carefully and are appropriate for the region. Members of the San Gabriel Mountains Chapter of the California Native Plant Society will be available to answer questions on planting and the plants for sale.

Pricing: Free

4. JEDI TRAINING CAMP

Where/When: Blue Chair Children’s Books, 177 N. Glendora Ave., Glendora. 10 a.m. Saturday November 12.

Why go: Who doesn’t want to learn how to become a Jedi? This fun event is open to kids between the ages of three to eight. After the training, check out the great selection of books at this independently owned and operated children’s bookstore.
