Goodbye, Diamond Bar

New editor Gina Tenorio will start at Diamond Bar Patch Monday morning.

Today is my last day as editor of the Diamond Bar Patch. What was supposed to be a short interim position stretched out into eight months, and I’m glad it did.

I’m from Redlands, and didn’t know much about Diamond Bar when I started last September. That’s definitely changed, and I can see why people are proud to say they live in the city. The parks are great, the schools - both in the Pomona Unified School District and Walnut Valley Unified School District - are top notch, and the city is run efficiently. Yes, there are problems like in every other town, but residents here are involved and actively looking for solutions.

I remember one of the first stories I worked on was about Sonya the therapy dog, whose owner, Prakash Vora, takes her all over the area to bring joy to people in the hospital. It was the first of several fun articles that I was able to write while here. I got to know community members by covering everything from the Diamond Bar Community Foundation to the Diamond Bar Friends of the Library to the awesome small business owners. There were also tough stories, like writing about sensitive trials and accidents that ended with death. With this job, you never know what is going to happen, and each and every day was different from the last.

I want to thank the readers of Diamond Bar Patch for visiting, leaving comments, and sending in tips, story ideas, and photos. You are a passionate bunch, and I enjoyed receiving feedback and hearing from you. To the freelance writers and bloggers, thank you for being part of this and understanding the changing face of journalism.

Gina Tenorio will start at Diamond Bar Patch Monday, coming over from the Redlands-Loma Linda Patch. Gina is a hardworking and dedicated journalist, and having known her for a few years, I can say that she is one of the kindest people you will meet. I know that she will do a great job.
