High Wind Warning in Effect, Through Friday

Gusts could reach up to 60 mph.

The National Weather Service is warning Los Angeles County residents that very strong Santa Ana winds are expected through Friday.

A cold low pressure system will move down the California/Nevada state line at the same time a strong surface high pressure will build into the Great Basin. When the two systems align, strong and damaging winds will be expected in the mountains and valleys.

In the San Gabriel Valley, the winds are anticipated to be north to northeast, 25 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph.

Residents are advised to close all windows and secure all outdoor objects, including lawn furniture. Very strong winds are capable of downing trees, power lines, and outdoor objects, and can cause dangerous driving conditions, especially for high profile vehicles.

The high wind warning will remain in effect until 3 p.m. Friday.
