Hospital Ranked Among Top in L.A. County

The Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center was ranked among the top hospitals in L.A. County in gynecology and nephrology in a recent survey by U.S. News and World Report.

Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center ranked as a top Los Angeles-area hospital in two fields, according to a national study by U.S. News and World Report.

The study found PVHMC "high-performing" in gynecology and nephrology (kidney disease) and ranked the hospital among 47 of the top-ranking hospitals in the greater Los Angeles area.

"To be ranked amongst these worthy hospitals, for the first time, is an honor for Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center and a benefit for our patients,” PVHMC President/CEO Richard E. Yochum said.

The annual rankings have been published for 22 years and the latest standings highlight the top 720 hospitals out of 5,000 nationwide.

"This is an incredible honor for Pomona Valley Hospital. I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of the Hospital’s gynecology department," Dr. Simmi Dhaliwal, ob-gyn, said.

Dhaliwal said the program has grown over the past five years since the introduction of a surgical robot program to perform hysterectomies.

“This validates the close working relationship of our nephrologists and dedicated dialysis nurses in caring for our patients,” Dr. Victor Pappoe, nephrologist, said.

The study was based on rankings in most specialities and included data on death rates, patient safety, procedure volume, and physician surveys.
