There's food and then there's superfood. But what is superfood, really? This week we take a look at mangosteen.

Heading south from China to the islands, the native Superfood is called Mangosteen.

It resembles nothing of a mango but rather the Lychee. However, the wild, organic juice of this fruit is a force to be reckoned with.

According to the health food provider GenesisToday, mangosteen can support immune system function, cellular regeneration, heart health, and can combat free radicals that can incite cancer.

As with other superfoods, the warning is again to make sure you are getting the pure, 100% fruit.

Many manufacturers and marketers of Mangosteen products add water, fruit juices, sweeteners, juice concentrates, chemical preservatives and other unwanted and unnecessary ingredients.

This is done to lower costs, improve flavor, and increase sweetness and to speed production runs. Find the pure stuff.

For pure superfoods, I have found Genesis Today to offer the best product. You can find it online or at stores like Mother's Market & Kitchen, which has a store coming to Brea this summer.
