Kick-Off Event Hopes to Raise Awareness, Teams for Relay For Life

The Relay For Life kick-off event will take place Monday, January 23 at D'Antonios.

Diamond Bar residents looking to take part in the fight against cancer can do so by attending the Relay For Life kick-off event Monday, January 23, and registering for the May 19 and 20 event.

The kick-off will take place from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at D’Antonios Ristorante, 808 N. Diamond Bar Blvd., Diamond Bar. It will feature food, prizes, and lots of fun.

“The kick-off for Relay For Life is for inviting the whole community to register their teams,” said event chair Hala Murad. “The teams are formed by individuals in memory of loved ones who lost the fight or honoring survivors and businesses who support the efforts of the American Cancer Society to help research and fight back. Teams are formed by associations, government officials, Bunco groups, health professionals, mom’s groups, etcetera to help with the cause.”

Relay for Life is “an event that started with one man running for 24 hours to raise money to help cancer patients and cancer research,” said Murad. “Then it became a nationwide event in many U.S. cities.”

The event will take place from 9 a.m. Saturday, May 19 to 9 a.m. Sunday, May 20, at Lorbeer Middle School. Participants will take to the track, with an opening ceremony at 9 a.m. Saturday, a Survivor Lap at 9:30 a.m., and a lumineria ceremony at 9 p.m.

“The mission of Relay is to remember those who fought and lost, celebrate those who survived, and fight back through research, advocacy and education,” Murad said.

In 2012, Relay For Life will celebrate its 7th year in Diamond Bar, with the planning done by a committed group of volunteers from across the city.

“We believe that we all can make a difference in saving lives, one person at a time,” Murad said. “We invite the whole city of Diamond Bar to support our efforts and join us at the kick-off event.”

To start a team, join a team, or register as a survivor or participant, visit the Diamond Bar Relay For Life website. Through January 31, early bird team registration is $25.

I wasn't talking about that, when did that happen, '73? Richard Nixon? That was a colossal waste ofRead More money. Nixon also started the EPA. Not many realize what a worthless Liberal he really was. He also took us off the Gold Standard which was the genesis for out of control gov spending.

How many people in wheelchairs, or blind people walking around have you ever seen in Walnut? I'veRead More lived here since 1968, I haven't seen one, not a single one. I have nothing against the handicapped, I do have a problem with the money it costs to jackhammer up sidewalks, and put ramps that nobody needs, especially 5 feet from a driveway aprin.

How about Hillary's failures: 1) Bill cheated on her 2) She was beat out for President by a Negro.Read More That is sure to "get" southern crackers like the Clintons, no matter how liberal they are. 3) Through incompetence, she is responsible for the deaths in Benghazi and covered it up.

You are so cynical, Hillary is awesome! She enabled the North Koreans to test a nuclear bomb withoutRead More consequences, turned Egypt into a hostile nation supporting the Moslem Brotherhood, supported the overthrow of Khadaffy in Libya, which is a paradise of Democracy now- take a romantic tour of Benghazi to prove it. Your nasty comments might bring on another fainting spell! "I declare, can a gentlemen get a lady a lemonade and a parasol"

Can anyone name even one of Hillary's accomplishments in the last four years? Other than maybe theRead More Benghazi debacle.

So this sounds like a good reason to keep the proposed NFL stadium OUT of Southern California.
