La Puente Man Suspected of Arson Attempts to Flee Deputies

Jeffrey Condrey, a 36-year-old La Puente resident, was working a construction job at the home he allegedly set fire to, authorities said.

A man who allegedly set fire to a La Puente home while working a construction job there was arrested today.

Jeffrey Condrey, a 36-year-old La Puente resident, was treated for injuries he suffered as a result of the fire and arrested at a local hospital, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Kim Manatt said in a news release.

At 12:25 p.m., deputies from the Industry sheriff's station responded to a call of a fire in the 500 block of North Sandspring Drive.  While the fire was being put out, Condrey was spotted running from the home, Manatt said.

Deputies detained Condrey and transported him to a local hospital for treatment.  While at the hospital, he tried to escape again but was caught, Manatt said.

Detectives from the Arson/Explosives unit responded to the scene and determined the cause of the fire to be arson.  The estimated damage is $75,000 to $100,000, according to authorities.

Investigators have learned that Condrey was at the home to build cabinets.  While working, he reportedly became upset and set fire to the home, Manatt said.

Condrey is still in the hospital receiving treatment but once cleared by doctors, he is expected to be booked and charged with arson to a structure and attempted escape, Manatt said.

The investigation is ongoing.
