Man Killed in La Puente Deputy-Involved Shooting Named

A man killed in a deputy-involved shooting during a traffic stop in La Puente was identified today.

Cesar J. Mendoza, 24, of La Puente was fatally shot about 9:45 p.m. Saturday near Loukelton Street and North Ballista Avenue, according to sheriff's deputies and coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

A deputy assigned to the Industry Station fired on the suspect when he fled his vehicle after being stopped; Mendoza repeatedly reached for a silver- colored handgun tucked into his waistband, sheriff's Sgt. Harry Drucker said.
