One Man Fatally Shot Near Nogales High, Another Wounded

A vehicle-to-vehicle shooting today near a La Puente high school left two men wounded, one fatally.

The gunfire erupted at Altario Street and Gendel Drive about 10 a.m. An occupant of one vehicle drove a short distance to the area of Nogales High School, in the 18900 block of East Northam Street, and died at that location, the sheriff's department reported.

His name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives. The survivor was airlifted to a hospital, but his condition was unknown.

The high school was briefly placed on lockdown as a precaution while an investigation was conducted. The Industry Sheriff's Station reported that investigators determined there was no relationship between the shooting and the school.

Summer school administrators sent out an email to parents regarding to incident.

"We contacted our Walnut Sheriff Station and they informed us that our campus is not impacted by the event," administrators wrote.  "As a precautionary measure, our campus security officers are appraised of the situation."

No arrests were reported.
