Ponzi Hearing Rescheduled Again

A new hearing date of October 3 is set

Two of the three local women charged with operating a Ponzi scheme were surprised to find Eva Perez was not in court yet again for their arraignment hearing Wednesday morning.

Perez was transferred to a different prison instead of being brought to the Pomona Superior Court.

Eva Perez, 51, Juliana Menefee, 50, and Maricela Torres, 41, could each face up to 13 years in prison if convicted of running a scheme that investigators say brought in close to $14 million and lost up to $4 million from “investors.”

Menefee and Torres were released from custody but Perez is currently serving an 11 year sentence for a similar scheme.

This is the second time the trial has been delayed because Eva Perez was not brought to the court house. On August 4, the women were scheduled for the arraignment hearing but the court called the wrong Eva Perez to trial.

Judge Wade Olson postponed the trial to October 3 so that Perez can be tried along with her co-defendants.
