Sheriff's Investigators Seize 565 Marijuana Plants at Diamond Bar Home

A fire at a Diamond Bar home Tuesday lead to the discovery of a marijuana grow.

At 5:40 p.m., the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the Sheriff's Department responded to a call of a fire in the 1500 block of Deer Crossing Drive.

Smoke was coming from the home due to a small fire in an electrical panel, said Sgt. Jim McGee of the Sheriff's Department's Narcotics Bureau. After entering the home, firefighters and deputies discovered the grow, which took up the majority of the top floor and some of the downstairs area, McGee said.

A total of 565 plants in various stages of growth were seized, he said, adding that the value of the plants had not yet been calculated. No one was home and no arrests have been made. The home did not sustain any significant damage from the fire, he said.

McGee said the yard at the home was maintained, but the windows were blackened to keep anyone from seeing into the home.

"They were stealing electricity," he said.  "There were panels exposed.  It was a mess."

If the Diamond Bar fire and marijuana grow seizure sounds familiar, it is because there was a similar bust in neighboring Chino Hills on Monday.

A blaze at a home in the 2100 block of Old Carbon Canyon lead to the discovery and seizure of 394 plants and a large amount of processed marijuana.
