Showers Expected Between Tonight and Monday Afternoon

Showers will douse the Southland between tonight and Monday afternoon, but bright sunshine and warmer temperatures will then return to the region, National Weather Service forecasters said.

The first of two relatively weak weather systems will appear in San Luis Obispo County later today and spread across Ventura and Los Angeles counties tonight and early Saturday, bringing light to moderate rainfall, they said.

In addition to rain, gusty southwest winds will lash local mountain areas and the Antelope Valley on Saturday.  A wind advisory, signaling an expectation of winds blowing at sustained speeds of 35 miles per hour, will be in effect from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday in the Antelope Valley, where, according to forecasters, 50-mph gusts are likely until early in the evening.

Then, a quick-moving cold front will slide into the region Sunday night, producing even less rain than the first system before it clears out Monday afternoon, according to an NWS advisory.

"Snow will not be a problem ... as the snow level will initially be around 9,000 feet, then lower to 6,000 feet by Saturday night," it said.

Less than an inch of rain was expected in the Southland, according to forecasters.

Temperature highs were expected to be mostly in the low to mid 60s today, climbing several degrees on Tuesday, when sunny weather will reappear, then rising even more sharply on Wednesday and a fraction more on Thursday.

Downtown L.A., for example, is forecast to have a high of 64 today, 67 on Tuesday and 78 on Thursday. In Woodland Hills, the highs forecast for those
days are 67, 70 and 82.
