With Opening of 2012 Southern California Garden Season, Gardeners Get Inspired

CCAA Museum exhibit of Garden as Art starts a welcome parade of events to inspire garden lovers.

Garden as Art show curator Gene Sasse borrowed the title from his latest book in progress. Pruning a big show to fit inside a small museum meant heavily pruning from the abundance of artistry proffered. Gene hand selected 200 works from the 41 featured artists, Acosta through Zornes.

Renowned for his professional horticultural photography, Gene insisted the garden theme “go beyond flower paintings.” From rustic through traditional to avant-garde, the range of topical and technique is broadly paved to open vistas where love of garden and art interconnect.

Like good gardens, many pieces were years in development. Diamond Bar resident and photographer Matthew Farris describes how his koi project at the Huntington Gardens was underway for three years when looking down from the bridge his eyes defocused. The koi transformed into “being the movement of color through space.”
