Walnut Accepting Application for City Council Appointment

The application deadline is 5 p.m. on July 23.

Walnut is now accepting applications for a vacant City Council seat.

Earlier this month, outgoing Mayor Tom King announced plans to move out of the city and resign his post. His departure was effective July 1.

The council members subsequently advised city staff that they would like to pursue appointing someone in the community to fill the vacancy. Applications must be returned by 5 p.m. on July 23, according to the city's website.

Candidates must be 18 years of age and older, live within the city limits, and be registered to vote in Walnut at the time the application is submitted.

Those interested in the seat may get an application from the city's website or a the city clerk's office, 21201 La Puente Road.

City Hall is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

The council plans to have a special meeting on July 31. Each approved applicant will get three minutes to make a presentation to the council. City officials also will ask questions.
