Walnut Gearing Up for July 4th Celebration, Looking for Pie Eaters

Neighboring Diamond Bar has canceled its fireworks show due to a lack of venue.

The city of Walnut is gearing up for its annual Fourth of July celebration and looking for some expert pie eaters.

Walnut will host its event at Suzanne Park.  The celebration will include live music by the rock band "The Trip," food trucks, games, patriotic face painting, and a pie eating contest.

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, canopies, and picnic baskets. Cooking appliances and grills are not allowed.

The Los Angeles County Fire Explorers will sell hamburgers, nachos, and more as well.

The best places to view the fireworks at around 9 p.m. are at the Suzanne Park and Suzanne Middle School fields.

To register for the pie-eating contest or for more information, please call the Community Services Department at 909-598-5605.

Diamond Bar canceled its Fourth of July event this year because of a lack of venue, officials said.  The city typically has its fireworks show at Diamond Bar High School, but the campus is under construction.

Lorbeer Middle School also is under construction and not available.  The city plans to bring its Fourth of July Blast in 2014 in time to be part of a planned series of events to celebrate Diamond Bar's 25th year of incorporation.
