Week in Review

Walnut Unified School District Board of Education candidates meet, two local elections are canceled, and the L.A. County Fair begins its run.

In case you missed it, here’s a look at what happened in and around Diamond Bar this week.

On Saturday, the 89th kicked off, with $1 admission and a concert by The Ohio Players, with Rose Royce and Lakeside.  

On Friday night, the tried their hardest, but couldn’t pull out a win against Chino High. The final score was 41-28 in the season opener.

On Thursday, the Chinese-American Association of Walnut hosted a , presenting the three candidates for the Walnut Valley Unified Board of Education: incumbent Larry Redinger and challengers Phillip Chen and Benjamin Yip. Two seats are up for grabs in the November 8 election. Topics the trio discussed included state budget woes and the need for more summer school classes.

Also on Thursday, two of Sen. Bob Huff’s (R-Diamond Bar) measures SB 161 (which would allow school employees to train and then give students emergency seizure medication via injection) and SB 456 (which will increase door-to-door collection of hazardous household waste).

On Tuesday, the that the Walnut Valley Water and Mt. San Antonio College Community College Districts are among several in Los Angeles County opting to cancel their November 8 elections. Elections for the city of Diamond Bar and the Walnut Valley Unified School District are still in place.
