Diamond Point School Garden Fundraiser – Sat, Sept 21

Join Institute of Urban Ecology , The Growing Home, and the Pomona School District for a fun & educational fundraiser for the Diamond Point Elementary School Garden.  Last year, The Growing Home helped to design and install a 1200 sq ft permaculture food garden at Diamond Point Elementary.  The school has now approved an expansion of the garden to 5600 sq ft, the size of 1.25 basketball courts!  This large garden will provide fruits, vegetables, and herbs for the school community, serve as a demonstration garden for small spaces, and be an educational learning garden for use by school teachers and staff.  We have already raised $6000 to make this garden a reality, but still need an additional $5000 to reach our goal and make this garden a reality.

We are planning a variety of activities for adults and children to learn and play (with the help of many friends and sponsors):

- Tours of current gardens by Diamond Point Garden Club students
- Traditional composting activity by LA Compost
- Black Soldier Fly composting demo by Michael Wood
- Honeybee info and observation hive by the Backwards Beekeepers
- Fruit and Veggie Tasting by Amy’s Farm
- Seed balling activity by Los Robles Club @ Cal Poly Pomona
- Pickling activity by Master Food Preservers
