Today Is National Cupcake Day: What Kind is Your Favorite?

Today is National Cupcake Day. 

These miniature cakes have been around in the United States since the 19th Century, according to punchbowl.com.

"Prior to cupcakes, ingredients used in baking were primarily weighed rather than measured," according to the website. "These delightful treats shifted the art of baking from weighing to measuring ingredients."

Cupcakes were once called one-two-three-four cakes due to their recipe, punchbowl wrote. That recipe included one cup of butter, two cups of sugar, three cups of flour, four eggs, plus one cup of milk and one spoon full of baking soda. 

Where is your go-to place for cupcakes near Diamond Bar or Walnut? What is your favorite flavor?

I don't think there is a good cupcake place around here, Walnut is just discount shopping and drive-thrus. That "Sprinkles" place in Newport Beach has dry cupcakes, so does the one in Chino Hills across from the CPK. The main thing is a cupcake needs to be moist, and not have too much frosting like the ones pictured.

Cupcakes are not as popular as they used to be. Folks are moving on to other things such as cronuts. Besides, cupcakes are not good for you.

What's the difference between measured and weighed? This article is shear nonsense ! Cupcakes are a poor excuse as a cake substitute. They are dry lumps over loaded with frosting to make up for what is lacking in the cake. This just adds more sugar to rot teeth and to make more diabetic people. But I Guess that makes them a friend to dentists and doctors!

Weighed is most accurate because measured can be affected by whether the flour is packed or not. However most kitchens do not have scales. To get accurate measured amounts my mother used to have to use a sifter. and sift the components first before measuring them. Have not seen a sifter in years. Neither a kitchen scale. Do not know how they make cakes from scratch anymore. I have a favorite recipe that is from scratch. Not sure how my wife makes it other than just packs the flour lightly in the measuring cup without sifting.
