Walnut City Council Recognizes Baton Twirlng Champ for 'Aiming High'

Paris Jayne Webb's hard work and dedication recently helped her finish in 1st place at the Western Regionals of the California State Champion Baton Twirler competition.

And now the state champ has been honored for her record-holding baton twirling locally by the Walnut City Council.

The council members last Wednesday night presented the 9-year-old Westhoff Elementary School fourth grader with a certificate of recognition for reaching the state's top spot.

"You are aiming high," Mayor Antonio "Tony" Cartagena said. "You are still at the early stage and I am sure with your with your time, effort, sacrifice and the support of your family and friends and the city of Walnut, I am sure you will accomplish. "I wish you the best."

Mayor Pro Tem Nancy Tragarz said that she is sure she will see Paris twirling on the Walnut High School field in a few years.

Mom Nora Webb said Paris has been baton twirling since the age of 2 and has performed at Disneyland and at Clippers basketball games. She also participated in the Walnut Family Festival Parade in October.

Paris practices two to three hours a day and is gearing up for the 2014 competition.

"It's hard work with homework from Westhoff," Nora Webb said. "We are very proud of her. She's done great."

Dad Patrick Webb lauded his daughter's hard work and focus.

"As long as you have dedication and you spend the time, success is there," he said. "We want to thank you for doing a great job."
