74-year-old Killed on 60 Freeway in Diamond Bar

California Highway Patrol officers are looking into what caused the man to collide with the rear of a tractor-trailer.

A 74-year-old man was killed late Tuesday when his vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer truck that had stalled on the eastbound 60 Freeway in Diamond Bar.

The crash was reported about 11 p.m. California Highway Patrol officials said Theodore Wong, of Chino had been traveling in a 20034 Lexus in the No. 3 lane, one of the slow lanes, as he approached Brea Canyon Road.

About that time, a 2004 Freightliner had stalled just west of Brea Canyon in the No. 4, or far right lane. According to CHP, Wong veered from his lane into the truck’s lane, colliding with the rear of the truck.

Officers said they did not know what caused Wong to veer into the truck’s lane. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:19 p.m. The big rig’s driver, Michelle Campbell, 50, of Tucson, Ariz. suffered minor injuries and was treated at Pomona Valley Hospital.

The investigation into the exact cause of the crash continues and officers ask anyone who witnessed the crash or has information on it to call the Baldwin Park CHP area office during normal business hours at (626) 338-1164.
