Area Gang Activity Lands Man in Hospital

A man shot in a gang-related attack Monday in Pomona's Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park was hospitalized in serious condition, police said.

The shooting at or near South White and West Lexington avenues occurred about 2:40 p.m., Pomona police Lt. Ronald McDonald said.

Nearby Garey High School was temporarily locked down during the investigation, and police stopped a possible suspect who was later let go, he said.

The victim, whose name was unavailable, was taken to County-USC Medical Center, McDonald said.

The shooting appeared to be gang-related, he said.

"The victim was Hispanic and the suspect was black," McDonald said.

A witness reported multiple shots being fired.
