Autopsy Pending on Baby Girl Found at Industry Trash Facility

The infant looked to be full term and in good health, according to investigators.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a newborn found at a material recycling facility in the City of Industry Monday.

A worker at the facility, which City News Services reported was Athens Services, found the baby girl just before 2 p.m., according to authorities. Detectives headed to the facility in the 14000 block of Valley Boulevard to conduct an investigation and found a deceased baby who looked to be full term and in good health.

The trash the baby was discovered in had been collected Monday from various cities around the San Gabriel Valley and brought to the the facility in Industry, according to a news release.

An autopsy is pending, which will help determine if the baby was still born or if she was alive and dumped into the trash after her birth. The investigation is ongoing.

Detectives ask anyone with information about a woman who may have been pregnant within the last week, but is not in possession of a baby, to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. In LA County, newborn babies (within 72 hours of birth) can be left with any hospital, police station or paramedics under the Safely Surrendered Baby Law. http://www.babysafela.org/ This is statewide, as well: http://www.dss.cahwnet.gov/Forms/English/pub400L.pdf Many other states have similar laws. The baby might have been stillborn; the autopsy will tell for sure. The whole situation changes based on when & how the baby died & how old she was. With all the resources we have here in SoCal, I'm sorry to hear stuff like this still happens...

Sad this happened. With all the morons living in this area, this is not surprising.
