CHP To Help Parents Keep Their Children Safe

The California Highway Patrol is holding a free child Safety Seat Check up event on Saturday, July 27.

The California Highway Patrol is holding a free child Safety Seat Check up event on Saturday, July 27.

The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Babies-R-Us’ parking lot, 960 Lakes Drive in West Covina.

Trained certified CPS technicians/officers inspecting child seats and offering traffic safety information, CHP officials said.

Below is a portion of the statement released by the CHP on the effort.

Every year, hundreds of children are either killed or seriously injured in motor vehicle collisions. Studies have shown child safety seats can reduce fatal injury by 72percent for infants and by 54 percent for toddlers, ages 1-4.

The goal of this event is to educate parents on the proper installation and use of child passenger seats. Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Inspections will be done by appointment only. To set up an appointment, participants must contact the CHP Baldwin Park office at (626) 338-1164.
