Claremont PD Chase Ends with Three Arrested

Three people caught riding in a vehicle Claremont Police said was reported stolen have been taken into custody.

Three people riding in a stolen car who led police on a chase through Claremont, Diamond Bar and Pomona were arrested today, police officials said.

Darlene Luna, 23, of West Covina, - identified as the driver - was arrested on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle and felony evading. Passenger, 20-year-old Kevin Tes, of Pomona was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting/obstructing an officer.

A third female passenger is in custody but officials did not have identification for her as of late Thursday, according to a news released issued by Claremtont Police Lt. Shelly Vander Veen.

The chase began at 2:22 p.m. Jan. 2. A Claremont officer spotted a 1997 Honda Accord headed east on Foothill Boulevard approaching Towne Avenue. The vehicle had been reported stolen earlier in Claremont, officials said.

When the driver saw the patrol car she sped away south on Towne. The driver led officers through main streets and industrial areas of Pomona before merging onto westbound Interstate 10.

The pursuit continued on I-10 and onto the 57 Freeway, before the vehicle exited on Temple Avenue in Diamond Bar.

“The driver stopped the vehicle when she found herself in the parking lot of the Cal Poly Farm Store (4102 University Dr. in Pomona),” Vander Veen wrote.

The driver and female passenger surrendered but the male, identified as Tes, ran. He was caught and arrested a short distance away, Vander Veen wrote. The Ontario Police Department airship assisted with the pursuit.

The pursuit lasted about16 minutes and covered some 17 miles, officials said.

Luna is on probation for identity theft, officials said. She was being held at the Claremont Police Department Jail in lieu of $75,000 bail.

Tes is on probation for driving a stolen vehicle and narcotic offenses, officials said. He is also being held at Claremont Jail in lieu of $75,000 bail.
