Diamond Bar Teen Suspected in Burglaries Gets Charged

Martin Joshua Payton, 18, faces two counts of burglary and one count of receiving stolen property.

An 18-year-old man who allegedly broke into apartments in Diamond Bar was charged today. 

Martin Joshua Payton, a Diamond Bar resident, faces two counts of first degree burglary with a person present and one count of receiving stolen property, said Jane Robison, a Los Angeles County District Attorney's spokeswoman.  She was unclear whether he had been arraigned today when he appeared in Pomona Superior Court..

Payton was arrested last week. Deputies received a call at 3:30 a.m. on Thursday of a burglary in the 1000 block of Grand Avenue, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Byron Ward wrote in a news release.

When deputies arrived, they found a woman who said she woke up and found a man in her bedroom. When she confronted him, he fled, Ward said.

Deputies searched the apartment complex and found an open window with its screen pried off.  They also heard yelling and saw a man run out a front door.

Payton was arrested.

The victims included two women, 28 and 30 years old respectively, and two men, one 54 and the other 58, officials said.

Payton is being held on $50,000 bail.
