Former Diamond Bar Teacher Convicted of Sex-Related Charges

Steven Andrews, 42, was found guilty on six counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and several other charges.

A former teacher at a Diamond Bar middle school was convicted Wednesday of sex-related charges involving a teenage girl he had taught.

A Pomona Superior Court jury deliberated less than a day before finding Steven Andrews, 43, of Anaheim, guilty of six counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, five counts of sexual penetration by a foreign object, three counts of lewd act upon a child, two counts of oral copulation of a person under 16 and one count of possession or control of child pornography, according to Deputy District Attorney Lisa Coen.

Andrews taught the 13-year-old girl for about a year before the sexual misconduct began, according to the prosecutor.

Some of the incidents occurred at the school, while later incidents occurred off campus, according to the District Attorney's Office.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department received tip after another teacher became concerned about the interactions between Andrews and the teenage girl, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Andrews was arrested Sept. 30, 2011.

He is facing a maximum of 15 years and eight months in state prison, according to the District Attorney's Office. He is also expected to be ordered to register as a sex offender.
