Jury: Dodgers Negligent in Fan Beating, Former Owner Frank McCourt Was Not

Jurors awarded Bryan Stow $18 million in damages, but the business entity that formerly owned the Dodgers is responsible for one-quarter of that.

The business entity created by Frank McCourt to operate the Los Angeles Dodgers was negligent in the handling of security at Dodger Stadium the night San Francisco Giants fan Bryan Stow was beaten into a coma in a parking lot in 2011, jurors have found.

The panel has found that McCourt himself was not negligent.

Jurors have awarded about $18 million in damages to Stow. The panel, however, found the Los Angeles Dodgers LLC only 25 percent responsible for the injuries the Giants fan suffered when he was beaten on opening day 2011, meaning the business entity must pay about $4.5 million.

The rest of the responsibly was attributed to the two men who carried out the attack.
