La Puente Man Pulled from Burning Truck in Pomona

The unconscious driver of a burning pickup truck was pulled out of its smoke-filled cab today by two Pomona police officers, police said.

The gasoline tank of the 1996 Chevrolet pickup truck was punctured in a collision in the 700 block of East Holt Boulevard at 11 a.m., said Sgt. Christian Hsu of the Pomona Police Department.

The truck bed was on fire when officers arrived. The fire quickly spread and smoke filled the passenger compartment, blocking visibility so the officers couldn't even tell who was inside, Hsu said.

Officers first extinguished the fire and then Officer R. Betancourt reached into the smoke-filled cab and found the 30-year-old driver, Brallan Sedano, of La Puente, unconscious, Hsu said. Betancourt pulled Sedano out, helped by Officer T. Johnson, Hsu said.

The truck was completely destroyed by the flames, Hsu said.
