Major Injury Crash on 57 Freeway Remains Under Investigation

The crash happened on Tuesday on the southbound 57 freeway near Brea Canyon Cutoff Road.

A crash that injured one and snarled traffic on the 57 freeway Tuesday remains under investigation.

At 2:30 p.m., a woman was driving southbound in the No. 4 lane on State Route 57, south of Brea Canyon Cutt Off Road, when she stopped her Toyota Corolla for an unknown reason, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A second motorist was driving his Ford Explorer behind her in the same lane. He did not see the stopped car ahead of him and struck the rear of the Toyota, authorities said.

The CHP and the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the scene. The woman driving the Toyota was transported to UC Irvine Medical Center with major injuries.

The male driver of the Ford Explorer was released with a citation for driving with a suspended license and failing to provide insurance at the scene of an accident, according to the CHP. Alcohol is not being investigated as a factor in the crash, authorities said.
