Man Cited For Tossing Kittens Into Trash

Inland Valley Humane Society officials say a Montclair man suffocated two newborn cats and threw them into a community trash container.

A man accused of suffocating two of three newborn kittens and then dumping them in the trash could face jail time.

Officials with the Inland Valley Humane Society say Joe Oceguera admitted to tossing the newborn animals in a community trash container in the 5000 block of Holt Boulevard in Montclair.

The kittens were found Aug. 1, IVHS officials said.

Animal Control Officer Derreck Rumsey responded after neighbors reported hearing cries coming from a community trash dumpster. With help from Montclair Police, Rumsey interviewed Oceguera, who admitted to tossing the animals in the trash can, officials said.

Oceguera was cited for animal cruelty and faces up to three years in prison and a fine up to $20,000.

The surviving kitten will remain in foster care at the Humane Society until it can be placed up for adoption.
